Conference Sustainability Initiatives
Â
At our conference, we are committed to sustainability and minimizing our environmental impact. Below are the steps we are taking to ensure a more sustainable event:
Carbon Emission Tracking and Reporting

We partnered up with Carbon GPT, a start-up company specializing in sustainability data, to assist the team in every step of the journey. The Carbon GPT team will be working with conference organizers to analyze and monitor our carbon footprint, provide actionable insights on reducing emissions, and ensure transparent reporting on sustainability efforts.
Their expertise will be instrumental in identifying areas for improvement across energy use, waste management, transportation, and catering, helping us set new benchmarks for sustainable events.
Venue and Energy Usage
We have selected National Oceanography Center, a venue that prioritizes energy efficiency and uses renewable energy sources wherever possible. Spaces within the venue are utilized effectively to avoid unnecessary energy consumption, such as cooling and lighting in unused areas.
The venue is also equipped with energy and water usage monitoring system, allowing the Carbon GPT team to tap directly into accurate usage data for accurate carbon emission estimations.
Waste reduction measures
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have implemented several measures to reduce waste and promote eco-friendly practices. Plastic-free initiatives include the elimination of single-use plastic name badges, ensuring a significant reduction in plastic waste. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles, with convenient water stations available throughout the venue. To minimize paper waste, digital materials are prioritized over printed programs, providing easy access to all necessary information in an environmentally conscious way. Additionally, gifts and merchandise have been thoughtfully selected to align with sustainability values, avoiding items with a high environmental impact. Even our badge lanyards are made from recycled materials, with designated collection points to recycle them after the event, ensuring a circular approach to resource use. These initiatives reflect our ongoing efforts to host a greener, more responsible conference.
Travel Emissions
We are committed to understanding and minimizing the environmental impact of attendee travel to our conference. To achieve this, travel data will be collected during the registration process. This information will allow us to estimate travel-related carbon emissions accurately.
By analyzing factors such as travel modes, distances, and attendee locations, we aim to gain valuable insights into the overall emissions footprint of the event. These estimations will help us identify opportunities to promote more sustainable travel choices and offset unavoidable emissions through certified carbon offset programs.
Your participation in providing this data is vital in helping us make the conference as sustainable as possible. Thank you for supporting our efforts to reduce environmental impact.
